The University of New England was established in Armidale in 1938 and became an independent university in 1954. UNE is the first university in Australia outside of a capital city, and has a well-earned reputation as one of Australia's great teaching, training and research universities. Set on a spectacular 74 hectares and featuring the original homestead at the heart of the campus, UNE combines heritage with modern academic, sporting, recreational and accommodation facilities. UNE has a campus in Armidale and study centres in Parramatta, Taree and Tamworth, as well as several other locations throughout regional NSW.UNE has three teaching periods or trimesters, commencing in February, June and October. The University has well over 180 courses on offer across 10 academic Schools. All areas of study are available to overseas students. Special on-campus services include UNE International; UNE's English Language Centre; the International Students Association and the Armidale International Association.
