Established in 1996, Jazz Music Institute is a Registered Training Organisation and Higher Education Provider located in QLD. Jazz Music Institute (JMI) is one of 27 music institutions world-wide that offers a degree strictly dedicated to jazz performance. An exclusive institute, JMI teaches all elements of jazz in a holistic way. JMI has international recognition with endorsements from multi Grammy Award-Winner and Artistic and Managing Director of Jazz at the Lincoln Centre NYC Wynton Marsalis, multi-instrumental jazz virtuoso James Morrison, plus others. JMI believes that if students become fluent in the language of jazz, they can play any genre of music. JMI places a high emphasis on improvisation and developing strong aural and analysis ability in students. As well as composition skills, JMI teaches students band leadership skills and instil in them the capacity to be strong contributing members of an ensemble. JMI aims to produce well-rounded musicians. Students spend the majority of contact hours in performance based classes, giving them the opportunity to learn and refine playing skills in different areas.
