Course Details

This degree aims to provide advanced skills and comprehensive knowledge in global aquaculture, and for students to use the knowledge in aquaculture nutrition, water quality, reproduction, product quality and health for the management of global aquaculture operations.

Qualification: Master Degree (By Coursework)

Course structure: Students must complete eleven core (compulsory) topics and one option topic chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students with in-depth theoretical and technical knowledge in aquaculture and specialised skills in global aquaculture farming and practice.; nutrition, water quality, reproduction, product quality and health issues.; a well-developed understanding of aquaculture operations through a combination of coursework and practicals and the ability to apply them to the profession. It will also develop advanced numerical and statistical skills relevant to aquaculture.; strong business management skills and the ability to apply a range of skills independently in the design of aquaculture facilities. To facilitate skill and learning development, students have access to aquaculture facilities including: six specially designed laboratories on campus that enable the culture of algae, zoo-plankton, fish, crustaceans and molluscs.; more than 100 aquaria.; and eighteen 10,000-litre outdoor tanks. Flinders also undertakes research and study at the Lincoln Marine Science Centre in the Eyre Peninsula which is the richest aquaculture region in Australia. One key benefit in this course is an extended practical experience through industrial work placement to prepare for future professional roles in Aquaculture.
