Course Details

The Master of Philosophy in the Faculty of Law requires the completion of a major thesis of 35,000 words in length, which may be undertaken in any area of research within the faculty. It is particularly suited to students seeking to undertake an inter-disciplinary research project. It is expected that the thesis will meet a standard comparable to legal writings found in learned journals, and demonstrate the student's ability to carry out independent research and to analyse and synthesise legal concepts.

Course structure: This course consists of a research and thesis component.; Areas of research.; This course may be undertaken in any area of research offered by the Faculty of Law. Refer to the faculty's Staff expertise webpage.; Course requirements.; You must, in consultation with and under the direct supervision of a member/s of the academic staff:.; carry out a program of research on an agreed topic approved by the faculty in your chosen discipline for a specified period, including attending and/or presenting at seminars and other related activities as indicated by the faculty.; , submit for assessment a thesis of not more than 35,000 words on the program of research which meets the requirements of the examiners. Submission of a thesis including published works may be permitted.
