Bachelor of Actuarial Studies


Course Details

This is a challenging and highly rewarding program for those wanting to enter the financial services or insurance industry in a quantitative role. This program is recognised by the actuary and financial services industry and enables students to develop technical and non-technical skills needed to pursue the role of an actuarial analyst. It also allows students to enhance their studies with a second major, including Accounting, Business Economics, Finance, Information Systems, International Business, Marketing, Mathematics and Statistics. Students can fast-track professional accreditation with Part I exemptions of Actuaries Institute of Australia professional examinations, the core technical subjects of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK) professional examinations and the Validation by Educational Experience credit for the Society of Actuaries (USA).

Qualification: Bachelor Degree (Pass)

Course structure: 24 courses (144 UOC): 12 Actuarial Studies core courses; 3 Level 3 Actuarial Studies electives; Business School elective; General Education courses (chosen from other faculties); Free electives (which can be used to complete a second major from approved areas of study). NOTE: Some majors will require additional study above the minimum 144 UOC.

This program is also offered as a combined degree with Commerce, Economics, Laws, Science and Advanced Maths. The UNSW HSC Plus does not apply to the Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and its dual degrees.
